Macbeth Comes to Longborough Festival Opera for Summer 2026
2nd April 2026
This summer, Longborough Festival Opera will stage one of Giuseppe Verdi’s most dramatic and atmospheric works as Macbeth arrives in the Cotswolds. Opening on 1 July 2026 and running until 16 July 2026, the production is set to be a powerful highlight of the festival’s season.
Based on William Shakespeare’s famous tragedy, Verdi’s Macbeth transforms the dark tale of ambition, prophecy and power into a gripping operatic experience. The story follows the Scottish general Macbeth and his wife as they are driven by prophecy and ruthless ambition to seize the throne, setting off a chain of guilt, paranoia and downfall. Verdi’s intense score, haunting choruses and emotionally charged arias bring new depth to Shakespeare’s iconic story.
Longborough Festival Opera is well known for presenting world-class opera in a beautiful countryside setting, offering audiences an intimate and memorable theatrical experience. With the dramatic backdrop of the Cotswolds, this production promises to capture the tension and intensity that make Macbeth one of Verdi’s most compelling operas.
Performances run from 1 July through to 16 July 2026, giving opera enthusiasts a limited opportunity to see this striking work performed as part of the Longborough Festival Opera season.
