30th March 2026

One of opera’s most powerful and emotionally charged works is set to arrive in the Cotswolds this summer as Richard Wagner’s Tristan & Isolde comes to Longborough Festival Opera. Opening on 20 May 2026 and running until 18 July 2026, the production promises to be a major highlight of the festival’s 2026 season.

First performed in 1865, Tristan & Isolde is widely regarded as one of the greatest operas ever written. Wagner’s sweeping score and deeply moving story explore themes of love, longing and destiny. The opera follows the doomed romance between the knight Tristan and the Irish princess Isolde, whose passionate and tragic relationship unfolds through some of the most dramatic and beautiful music in the operatic repertoire.

Longborough Festival Opera has built an international reputation for staging ambitious works in an intimate and atmospheric countryside setting, making it an ideal venue for a production of this scale and intensity. Audiences can expect a powerful performance that brings Wagner’s music and storytelling vividly to life.

With performances running from 20 May through to 18 July 2026, visitors have a number of opportunities across the summer to experience this extraordinary opera in the heart of the Cotswolds.
